Don't focus on what you don't have!

Pastor Tim said something key last night. He said, "don't focus on what you don't have." When Jesus told his disciples to feed the crowd they exclaimed they didn’t have anything to offer that many people. Jesus assured them they had enough for God to work with. The result was an overabundance of food after every man, woman, and child was fed and well.

If you focus on what you lack the enemy can easily bring anxiety, discouragement, and defeat into your situation. Instead trust in God and watch God work through your willingness to have a yielded heart.

If you are struggling with relational issues, health problems, or another form of brokenness, I encourage you to look at what you have:

You have God!

“He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast trusting in the Lord. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.” Psalm 112:7-8

“What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?] He who did not withhold or spare [even] His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all [other] things?” (Romans 8:31-32 Amplified)

You have His Word!

Every word of God is tried and purified; He is a shield to those who trust and take refuge in Him. Proverbs 30: 5

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart. Hebrews 4: 12

So get rid of all uncleanness and the rampant outgrowth of wickedness, and in a humble (gentle, modest) spirit receive and welcome the Word which implanted and rooted [in your hearts] contains the power to save your souls. James 1: 21

You have previous experiences where God showed up!

I’m sure there are many more things that you have and I encourage you to meditate on them! So no matter what giants you are facing today remember to focus on Jesus instead of the mountain!

One of my favorite quotes comes from Hinds Feet in High Places-
One morning during the daily Bible reading on our mission compound in Palestine, our little Arab nurse read from Daily Light a quotation from the Song of Songs, "The voice of my Beloved! Behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills" (Song of solomon 2:8). When asked what the verse meant, she looked up with a very happy smile of understanding and said, "It means there are no obstacles which our Savior's love cannot overcome, and that to Him, mountains of difficulty are as easy as an asphalt road."

Faith Like Potatoes

What a blessing it is to come away from a movie being uplifted and blessed by the Lord!

Ryan and I just finished watching "Faith Like Potatoes."

It's a true story about an ordinary african farmer who was transformed by God. His wild passion for God was fertile ground for Kingdom building! Through his trust in the Lord he saw many miracles happen thus drawing more people to God's Kingdom. It is a truly inspirational story, and we recommend it as a quality piece of entertainment/ministry.

The Lord's healing power becomes more evident as our faith grows, persistence develops, and our understanding of His character deepens. The Lord gave many people around the world, including myself, compassion for this 11 year old boy named Robbie, who was infected with a viral disease back in December. My act of obedience was to fast and pray for him one day a week until I saw progress with his ability to speak and walk again. Well, Robbie is speaking and here is a video of him taking his first steps. God is good!

Pleasant Surprise

CamieLee had a conviction to give up coffee a few months ago, so she decided to act in obedience. She had a fear of bad headaches coming over her because she had experienced them in the past due to lack of caffeine. This time she gave it to the Lord, and she has been headache free for 3 days.

Am I prepared to praise Him in the storm?

Only the love of Christ is so deep that it has the ability to draw you out of times of complete despair. I witnessed, at a funeral, this past weekend a family who has now lost a father and a daughter to a horrible disease in the past few years. We don't always understand the "whys" in life, but I am beginning to understand that only our Creator has the supernatural power to comfort us during these times. It was a blessing to witness the miracle of "holding tightly to one's faith" as the earthly ground shook beneath this family's feet. Thank you for showing me how to praise the Lord amidst the storms in life!

God Speaks so Listen

A couple of weekends ago I was up north visiting my brothers. When Sunday rolled around, I went to church with them. As I was sitting and observing, the Lord really put the need for older mentors on my heart (campus church). It was very evident God was speaking. The next day I returned home, and I was chatting on Facebook with my friend from the same area. As we were chatting, she said her and her husband were really praying about getting involved with this same church and having college students into their home. (She hadn't received confirmation at this point.) They happened to be at the earlier service that morning, and she was praying to hear from the Lord. At the late service (one hour later), I received this word, and the Lord allowed us to connect the following Monday!

Mom's Heart

A couple of weeks ago my mom told me she had gone in to the doctors to get her heart checked out. Initially nothing was wrong; this was just supposed to be a normal check up. The doctors examined her and said her heart was very healthy but according to the ultrasound they saw a small bubble like shape on the back of her heart. She told me she had to get X-rays and a CAT Scan the following week to determine the severity of this discovery. As I spoke with her over the phone, I made sure to not to claim the doctor's diagnosis with my tongue. I told my mom I believed what they found was just a shadow and she had nothing to worry about. I reminded her not to agree to this, that God had the final say. I continued lifting her situation up in prayer. I did not give over to fear or worry because of what the bible tells us in Psalm 73:26 that "...God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." I was confident the Lord had is hand upon her. Sure enough my mom sent me a text this afternoon. It read, "it was a shadow, my heart is perfectly fine... God is divine Amen and Amen."

Robbie is Going Home

(The following is a report from Robbie's parents. Please refer to the Feb. 7th post to learn more about Robbie's condition.) Hello to all, we just wanted to send a quick update to share something special with you all. We just had our every-other-week conference with our doctors, nurses, therapy team, and child life people. Robbie was able to attend this one for the first time and he kept everyone laughing throughout. I think he was encouraged as everyone reported individually of how amazed they were at his good progress the past two weeks.I’ll share more details later but the most important thing to come out of this meeting was a discharge date! The plan is now for us to be able to head home on Friday, February 27, just 10 days from now. Robbie, as you can imagine, had a big smile on his face when he heard that, almost as big as the smile on his father’s face. His therapy team made Robbie promise to keep updates going on the Caringbridge site before we they would agree to let him leave and also wanted him to promise to come back and visit.

My brother, Justin, just called me up and said enough is enough. Direct Quote: "Ryan, I can't do this by myself anymore!" He is ready to give his life to the Lord. The Lord is so faithful to answer our prayers. Please be encouraged and pray for all of those people who the Lord places on your heart!

CamieLee's headache testimony

I had been struggling with an aggravating headache for most of my morning. Towards the evening it had turned to a sharp pain, it was nauseating. I was planning on going to the Prayer Room across town but was hesitant because of my increasing discomfort. After last week's message about spiritual warfare I knew the reason I was being attacked so strongly with this headache was because I was going to be edified at the meeting- a major threat to the enemy. At this point I was determined to go. While I was in my car I started claiming my healing and rebuking the pain. I confessed that God was my healer and thanked Him for my healing. I admit it's always a challenge to focus on God's attributes and what the scripture says about healing when your symptoms are screaming at you. Nevertheless I challenged myself to push through and depend on God's power and strength, his goodness and his promises to us. By the time I sat down in my seat at the prayer meeting my head and neck were pain free!!!

Car Title (Big or Small the Lord Cares About It All)

I am looking for my car title tonight, and I can't find it anywhere. I've gone through every drawer imaginable. At a moment of complete frustration, I lay my head down on the desk and beg the Lord to show me where it could be. He instantly gives me a picture of a filing cabinet, which I tucked away in a closet to free up some space. I get up and walk over to the filing cabinet. As I am rummaging through the files, I notice one titled Car Loan. I take out the file and there is the title! Praise the Lord!

Robbie speaks (Lessons from a 11 year old boy)

There is a little 11 year old boy named Robbie who thousands of us have been praying and fasting for the last couple of months. (Robbie has been diagnosed with viral encephalitis, which means he has swelling on his brain. The doctors don't know how he contracted it and told the family they will probably never know the cause. Because it's viral, not bacterial, there is no medical treatment. (description from family's email) Anyway, there is an awesome praise report. After two months of not being able to speak, he spoke!!! (Sometimes, just the effort of making a simples sound would cause his muscles to seize up. Well, yesterday evening was definitely a breakthrough in that. He started trying to make every sound he could think of that included the vowel and consonant sounds he was able to do: “Dad, mom, Beth, hi, yo, mamaw, oma” and so on. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Even our med-tech and nurse started getting teary eyed – they both said “Praise God” as well – they all know of Robbie’s faith around here. Everyone who came in to the room heard him try to say their name and started crying as well, “Oma, Opa, Becca”. Before leaving that evening, he hugged us and slowly and aggressively said, “Aaahh Llluuhh Oooo”. He said “I love you” to his mom, dad, and both sisters. And, of course, he continued to sign “Thank you God” throughout. (note from family's email) We anticipate and command in Jesus' name a full recovery!

Yes, No, Not Right Now (thoughts toward prayers)

Ask the Lord to guide your eyes through the book of Daniel. Then, you need to pay close attention to Daniel 10. This chapter has been brought to my attention a couple times in the last few months. It really begins to crack open the happenings in the spiritual realm. May we all be steadfast and not stop a day, minute, or second short before we experience a divine breakthrough. Thank you Pastor Dan for sharing this "Revelation"!

LifeTime Fitness Testimony

At the end of my cycling ride a few weeks ago, my instructor gave a testimony to our whole class and another class she had previously taught that week. Therefore, this particular act of obedience easily brushed up against the ears of 100 plus people. The testimony was about a friend of hers, who was going through a divorce and experiencing some financial difficulty. It happened to be the time preceding Christmas. She was feeling down about the fact she couldn't get the kids presents like she had in the past. As a result, she prayed on the way to the restaurant she worked at. She laid her requests before the Lord. When she got to work, one of the tables she served was a family. After they finished eating, the two little children came up and gave this woman two fifty dollar bills. The woman said, "I think you made a mistake here." Trying to figure out what happened the woman made her way over to the table and asked if this money was really for her. The adults at the table told the woman they had prayed on their drive that morning for the Lord to allow them to bless someone. Then, when they got to the restaurant the Lord pointed you out, so we want to bless you. (Praise the Lord!) I love this testimony for two reasons: the first one is because it shows the power of obedience and second one is this testimony shows how powerful it is to share what miraculous things the Lord is doing in your life.

There is this woman in prison, who I learned about at church last Sunday. During this time of her life, she has began to pursue the Lord. Sometime ago The Shack, a well known Christian book, was sent to her. It was of great enjoyment to her, so she began passing it around and signing it out to the other women in the prison where she stays. Currently, she has a list of women's names waiting to read this book. I love the fact that pages of hope can be passed around even when you're in the darkest of places.

Monuments, Testimonies, and Remembrances

The last couple of days I have felt as though it was spring or summer amidst the mid-winter. The feeling has been both rejuvenating and hopeful. Yesterday, I visited a friend's house where I had stayed during a rough time. The Lord spoke to me and said, "Ryan this house serves as a monument for you to remember my faithfulness. Every time you walk in this house you'll be reminded of how I've rescued you from a very difficult time in your life." Later that night as Camie and I were visiting with this couple, we talked about how Camie and I met. The feelings of eagerness, wonderment, and excitement poured all over me. The overall theme of the night was the Lord gives us remembrances, monuments, and testimonies to reactivate our joy, maintain our faith, and allow us to move forward.

Landon is Healed

A few weeks ago, my friend Tessa came up to CamieLee and I with a prayer request. She preceded to say her nephew, Landon, was in Intensive Care, due to a condition called "Intussuception". He was in critical condition. As result, people prayed and fasted for his recovery, and he was released from the hospital a few days later. Currently, he is doing well and was able to enjoy his first Christmas with his mom and dad.

My Long Awaited Wife To Be

I waited and prayed many years for the Lord to release my future wife to me, and I ended up beginning a relationship with her this past March. There were times of great patience, some moments of doubt, but I am here to say she was worth the "wait"! This past year I finally learned to become content in the Lord, and he released CamieLee to me in 2008.

Andrew gives his life to the Lord

Then, over Christmas break my other brother, Justin, became interested in pursuing a relationship with the Lord. We must become responsible for our thought life and choose to fix our thoughts on Jesus because he is the giver of life (Heb 3:1), on the Word of God because it is health (Prov 4:20-21, Pslam 1), on the attributes of God (Psalm 145:8-9), on the promises of God, on all the things He has already done for us, on His mighty works (Psalm 143:5), and on your destiny. Fix your thoughts on the needs of others with compassion, and on who you are in Christ (Jhn 15:5, Rom 5:11, 1 Corinth 12:27, Eph 1:5, Eph 2:18, Col 1:14, Col 2:10.)

To prepare yourself for healing you must focus on God not your symptoms.

Ryan and I have witnessed some amazing testimonies in our lives and in the lives of those we love, so we've decided to share them through the avenue of a blog. It was a vision of ours to create a place where others could share their testimonies for both encouragement and prophecy. To continue, we have learned a lot about how God loves to heal his people through the Gospels. Therefore, we will also be including insights we've been taught about the healing power of God.
